OUR PHILOSOPHYWHAT WE OFFERABOUT YOUR HOSTS

OUR PHILOSOPHY
We aim to offer the chance to experience the real Umbria – Italy’s green heart – its beautiful countryside, friendly locals, delicious food, spectacular history, medieval towns and churches.

At Pian Di Cascina we offer you the flexibility to enjoy your holiday in the way that suits you best;

RELAX AND CHILL OUT

You can relax and enjoy the beautiful grounds, gardens and 20 acres of private land.

Each property has a private terrace with a pergola for shade, and a gas BBQ grill – perfect for relaxed alfresco dining or chilling out with a good book and a glass of vino.

The pool is surrounded by terraces, some with shade, some for the sun worshipper. You can lay back and enjoy the warm sun whilst taking in spectacular views of the Apennines.

What better way to un-wind than to stroll through our ancient olive groves – you can walk among our trees and perhaps see some of the local wildlife – deer, lizards, geckos, kites, porcupines, butterflies, pheasants, hare and if you are very luck wild boar!

There is a large lawn –with pergolas for shade, it is the perfect place for some uplifting early morning yoga or for a game of badminton, boule or ping pong with friends.

There are many spectacular sights and tourist destinations that are easily accessible from the villa. We are only 30 minutes from Assisi with its’ stunning architecture and churches, medieval Gubbio, the Umbrian Siena is only 25 minutes away and Perugia, the spectacular capital is just over half an hour from the farm.

Within just 40 minutes drive, you can visit the stunning caves at Frassasi, the beautiful hill town of Spello, the mountains in the Monte Cucco National Park, lake Trasimeno, browse the famous pottery studios at Deruta or marvel at the architecture in Spoleto or Bevangna.

The nearest village has a good range of shops, including a speciality cheese shop and a well stocked butchers.

If you wish to dine at the villa, we offer home cooked traditional Italian meals twice weekly (in season)at La Tavernetta. La Tavernetta is our small restaurant exclusively available to guests of the villa. If you choose to dine with us at La Tavernetta, you will have the pleasure of sampling a range of local dishes, many cooked with organic ingredients grown on our farm served in a warm friendly atmosphere.

TAKE PART IN LOCAL TRADITIONS

There are many festivals and celebrations throughout the year in Umbria.

In May there is the famous Ceri in Gubbio and later the medieval crossbow tournament. In June and July there is Perugia Jazz festival, the re-enactment of Hannibal’s battle on lake Trasimeno and the start of the sagra season (each town has a food festival with music and dancing).

There are various sagra throughout July, August and September – the local towns celebrate the seafood festival at the end of July, the polenta and sausage festa and the spaghetti festival at the beginning of August.

September brings the harvest, new wine, various fungi festivals, the medieval festival in Valfabbrica, complete with jousting and drumming and later on in October, Gubbio’s truffle fair and Eurochocolate in Perugia.

There always seems to be a celebration somewhere in Umbria and the locals are more than happy for all to join them!

ABOUT YOUR HOSTS
We are a young energetic couple who gave up sensible jobs in the city to pursue our dream of living and working in Italy.

We are passionate about preserving the environment, locally grown food and embracing a ‘slower’ pace of life.

We spent several years painstakingly restoring our abandoned 17th century farmstead and even longer resurrecting and clearing the 20 acres of surrounding olive groves and abandoned countryside.

We have been open for visitors since 2007 -We are pleased to say that after many years of hard work we have created a beautiful, environmentally friendly holiday villa that offers the perfect place in which to enjoy everything Umbria had to offer.

We also manage and run a small organic farm which grows soft fruit, olives for oil and organic vegetables.

We constantly strive to update and renew – our mission is to offer our guests a beautiful, location in which to holiday, while retaining the authentic Umbrian experience.

This year, by popular request we will also be offering organic Umbrian food (from our gardens when possible) in La Tavernetta- our small country style restaurant. Twice weekly, guests will be able to sample a range of delicious home cooked Umbrian dishes matched with well chosen local wines. We are very excited about the opening of La Tavernetta and very much hope that our guests will enjoy the food here as much as we do!

We very much hope that you choose Pian Di Cascina for your holiday in Umbria – we will do our best to ensure that you have the most enjoyable time possible staying with us in the heart of the magical Umbrian countryside!

All the best
Paul and Isabel
